The original Vision Pro was a marvel of engineering, but its weight and price held it back. New reports from the supply chain suggest Apple is addressing both issues head-on with the second generation.
Cutting the Cord & Weight
Insiders claim the Vision Pro 2 will feature a new "AirLink" proprietary wireless technology, allowing it to offload processing to a nearby iPhone or Mac. This would remove the need for heavy onboard batteries and fans, reducing the headset weight by nearly 40%.
Price Drop
By using cheaper materials and lower-resolution (but still 4K) micro-OLED panels, Apple reportedly aims to price the "standard" Vision model at around $1,999. This would put it in direct competition with high-end PC VR headsets.
Release Date
Don't hold your breath just yet. While prototypes are in testing, mass production isn't expected to ramp up until late 2026, pointing to a Holiday 2026 or Spring 2027 launch.
